What you need (supplies)
- Pocket folders -- at least a couple. Clips don't matter because you aren't going to use them. The folder doesn't have to be fancy -- a 15 cent folder works fine. You will likely have to replace it two or three times during the year.
- Paper. Yes, this is school. We write stuff.
- Pen (black or dark blue ink) or pencil (#2 lead).
- Red and green pens to annotate text.
- My Reflections on American History workbook (I will give you one at the beginning of school)
- A 3-ring binder, at least 2 inches.

Coming into the room
- Stop the chatter, check the bell, get your stuff, and get ready (get materials, sharpen pencil, etc.)(etc. does not mean 'finish your conversation from the hallway').
- Write the bell activity, get started on it. Few bell activities will take more than 5 minutes to complete.
- When finished, keep the bell activity on your desk -- we usually discuss it.

Class routine
- Respect yourself and others in the class. This basically means you should treat other people and their stuff the way you want them to treat you.
- As a rule of thumb, if you are thinking about how someone will laugh about what you are getting ready to say,
you probably should think about not saying it. I will gladly invest time to clarify misunderstandings and serious questions.
- Do your best. If you are working in a group, contribute. If you are working on your own, participate with the class when invited.
- Please -- no gum, no food, no make-up, mirrors, electronics, or toys. IF you 'act' like you are chewing I'll think you are chewing (I really don't want to see your mouth to check for gum, either). It's not that I don't like gum, but too many students have caused problems.
Students are to be prepared with all papers, pens, pencils, workbooks and any other materials required for class. Never interrupt class or the teacher about sharpening your pencil, needing paper, throwing out trash, or any other trivial matters during class. Class time is for learning.
You are to raise your hand to get permission to speak. Raising your hand does not give you permission to speak -- it just lets me know you want to speak.
Restroom -- Not during the first 10 minutes or the last 10. Please don't ask to go as soon as you walk in the class -- take a tardy if it's an emergency, sit down if it's not.
If you are told to move your seat or given any other direction you are to do so immediately and without complaint. If you feel this or any other direction is unreasonable you may arrange to discuss it with me outside of instructional time. Otherwise, follow all directions immediately and without complaining. Class time is for learning.
If you put unfinished work away before I tell you to, I will hold you after class to talk about use of class time. Putting it away before the end of class tells me you are ready for me to grade it.
When the bell rings, stay in your seat until I dismiss the class. Jumping up before that will just delay your departure.

- First warning is just that -- a warning. If you mistake the warning as a suggestion, we move on to:
- Second warning -- In class consequences. We talk after class. Attitude doesn't improve your situation.
- Third time -- I talk to your parents, guardians, etc.
- 4th time Administrative Referral/Intervention
Bathroom
- No one leaves within the first 10 minutes of class unless called out by the front office. If it's an 'emergency', you can leave but you'll have to fill out a tardy slilp.
- No one leaves during the last 10 minutes of class. If it's an 'emergency', you'll have to fill out a tardy slip.
- During the open time, don't stop the class to ask if you can go. Just fill out your planner and bring it to me. Even if I'm talking (I can do two things at once).
